Roxxem uses YouTube to show music videos. If you or your students are having trouble playing the videos, here are the steps you can take:
Issue 1: Your school blocks or restricts YouTube
Unfortunately, many schools block or restrict YouTube. Roxxem uses the YouTube Iframe Player to embed and play videos, which may also be blocked.
Please contact your school's tech department and ask them to allow the following web addresses:
- googlevideo.com
- youtube.com/embedded
- youtube.com/embed
- ytimg.com
If this isn't possible, you can assign Roxxem videos to watch at home, so that your students can use their own internet connection to access YouTube.
Issue 2: Restricted Mode
If you get a message that says, “Video unavailable. This video is restricted. Try signing in with a Google Apps account,” you'll need to approve the video before students can watch it.
If you don't have the option to approve videos, you may need to talk to your tech administrator about allowing those videos to be shown.
You (or your students) may also have Restricted Mode enabled on your YouTube account. In that case, log into YouTube with your teacher account. Click on your profile icon, go to the bottom of the drop-down menu, and then turn off Restricted Mode.
Issue 3: Ad Blockers
If you see a message that says, “Please try again later. (Playback ID:xxxxxxx)”, the problem is probably due to ad-blocking browser extensions such as AdBlock, uBlock, etc.
You'll need to pause or disable the ad blocker when on the Roxxem site.
Issue 4: YouTube account settings
Your YouTube account settings may be affecting the playback of videos embedded on Roxxem.
Go to https://www.youtube.com and log out of your account. Then see if you can play a video on Roxxem. If you can, the issue is your YouTube account. Try to log back into YouTube with a personal (non-school) account, or an account that does not have a YouTube channel associated with it.
On a restricted school network, students may need to log into Youtube with their school Google account. Make sure they log out of YouTube, then ask them to log in again to YouTube with the email address associated with their school accounts. Double-check that they're not logged in with their personal account.
If students are still unable to view the video, it could be because of their channel configurations on YouTube. To fix this, students will need to do the following:
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “DELETE CHANNEL” button.
Issue 5: "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot"
If you get a message that says, "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot," it's because YouTube wants to verify that you are a real person.
If you are not using Chrome, we strongly recommend switching your browser to Chrome. This will most likely fix the problem. (It may also help to sign into Chrome with your Google account, and/or go to YouTube and sign into your YouTube account.)
Chrome is the best browser for using Roxxem and playing embedded YouTube videos.
If you are using Safari, try the following steps:
- Open "System Settings"
- Click on "Wi-Fi"
- Click on the "Details" button or "Info" icon next to your wifi network
- Disable "Limit IP address tracking"
Issue 6: Your browser configuration
If the above steps do not work, it could be the case that your browser has some setting or configuration which is preventing the video from playing. Try the following steps:
1. Restart your computer and update your browser to the latest version
Really! This can solve a lot of problems.
2. Clear cache and cookies
Here is a guide on how to do this for Chrome.
3. Disable browser plugins and extensions
Try opening Roxxem in an incognito window with all plugins and extensions disabled and check if the issue continues. If the video plays, you probably have an issue with a plugin, extension, or your Google/YouTube account.
Browser extensions related to security, privacy, or ads, in particular, can affect video playback. Turn off your extensions and plugins one-by-one until you can identify the specific one that is causing the issue.
4. Allow third-party cookies
Here is a guide on how to do this for Chrome.
5. Turn off any "Prevent cross-site tracking" settings
Here is a guide on how to do this for Safari.
6. Disable Hardware Acceleration
Here is a guide on how to do this for Chrome.
7. Switch to a different browser and see if Roxxem works there
The video still doesn't work
Unfortunately, issues with videos can be frustrating and difficult to solve. The reason that the video does not play is often unique to each device, browser, and/or network.
If you have tried all of the above steps and Roxxem videos still do not work, please contact us at hi@roxxem.com. We will do our best to help you troubleshoot the issue.
