Overview
Pulse shows what you can do in your target language: your level in each skill, how it is changing, and what to work on next. It is built from the work you already do on Roxxem, so there is no separate exam to sit.
Pulse sits beside Activity, which shows what you did: time spent, days active, words and content. Each links to the other. See What's on the Activity page?.
Pulse is a Pro feature. For teachers, the class side of Pulse is included with Pro Teacher.
Levels and skills
- Pulse gives a level for reading and listening, on the ACTFL scale. Switch to CEFR with the toggle at the top of the page.
- Writing and speaking are shown but not scored yet, because no activity on Roxxem produces writing or speech to grade.
- Levels update overnight, from the practice and games you completed.
- Just starting? Pulse shows Pulse is warming up until there is enough graded practice to read a level. Everything else on the page still works.
- Took the Spanish level test? Your result appears at the top of your Overview, and it fills in your reading and listening levels after the nightly update. See How the Spanish level test works.
For learners
Open Pulse from the sidebar. You'll see three tabs:
- Overview: your skill levels, your streak, the skill to work on next, the topics you keep choosing, and one recommendation to start with.
- My Learning: recommendations picked for your level and the skill that needs the most work.
- My Interests: what you keep coming back to, and content to play today that matches it.
For teachers
Open Pulse from the sidebar and choose a class. Each class has four tabs:
- Overview: where the class sits in each skill.
- What To Do: the skill holding the class back, one lesson to teach next, and what to assign.
- Interests and Activity: what your class chooses when nobody is assigning it.
- Students: your students in groups (Stalled or at risk, Needs support, Warming up, On track and Above level), each with the reason it was chosen, then a full roster you can search and sort. The Level test column shows each student's latest Spanish level test.
Select a student to open their profile: their group and why, their skill levels, their goals, their activity, and your private notes about them. Their tabs are Overview, Progress and Interests.

FAQ
How is my level worked out?
From the games and practice you complete on Roxxem, graded overnight. Watching a video without playing does not count toward a level.
Why does Pulse say "warming up"?
There isn't enough graded practice yet to read a level. Play a few games or lessons and check back after the next overnight update.
Can students see which group they are in?
No. Groups are for teachers only.
Can I disagree with what Pulse suggests?
Yes. Pulse suggests; you decide what your class does next.
