Find answers to the most common questions about Roxxem — from how the platform works and what languages are available, to plans, pricing, and how teachers can use it with their students.
Who is Roxxem for?
Roxxem is for anyone who wants to learn a new language by listening to music — from beginners to advanced learners. It's also perfect for teachers who want to engage their students with authentic, culturally rich content.
What makes Roxxem different from Duolingo or other apps?
Roxxem focuses on authentic music and cultural content, making it an ideal supplement to a general curriculum or language learning app. If you've built some basics with another app and want to sharpen your listening skills with real songs, Roxxem is a great next step. It's also designed as a role-playing game where you take your character on a language learning journey.
What languages are available on Roxxem?
Roxxem currently supports:
- Spanish
- French
- English (ESL)
- German
- Chinese (Traditional and Simplified)
Will Roxxem add new languages in the future?
Yes! More languages are on the way. Stay tuned for updates.
How do I create an account?
- Go to roxxem.com and select Sign Up.
- Choose your account type: Personal, Teacher, or Student.
- Sign up with email and password, or use Continue with Google or Continue with Apple.
- Follow the onboarding steps — choose your target language, set your level, and pick some songs.
- Check your inbox for a verification email and confirm your address.
Students joining a class should use their teacher's invite link or class code instead of signing up independently.
What account types are available?
- Personal — For individual learners studying on their own.
- Teacher — For educators who want to manage classrooms, assign lessons, and run live games.
- Student — Created when a student joins a teacher's class via an invite link or class code.
Can I change my account type later?
Yes, with some restrictions. Personal and Teacher accounts can switch between each other in account settings. A Personal account can switch to a Student account by joining a class with a code. Teacher accounts cannot switch to Student accounts.
What does the free plan include?
The entire song library is free, along with basic lessons and games (including classroom games). The free plan is a great way to explore Roxxem before deciding to upgrade.
What do the Pro plans offer?
- Roxxem Pro — Spaced repetition reviews, custom study settings, advanced statistics, and an ad-free experience.
- Roxxem Pro Teacher — Everything in Pro, plus class management, homework assignments, and student progress tracking.
If I get a teacher subscription, do my students have to pay?
No. With one teacher subscription, you get unlimited student accounts at no extra cost. Your students never have to pay.
Can I change plans or cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel anytime from Account Settings > Plan > Manage Subscription. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period, then revert to the Free plan.
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, you must cancel through the store directly (not through Roxxem).
Will I lose my progress if I cancel?
No. Your study history, word data, and account settings are preserved. You simply lose access to Pro-only features.
Can I get a refund?
Roxxem's refund policy depends on how you subscribed. Contact hi@roxxem.com for refund requests.
Does my school or district qualify for bulk pricing?
Yes. Schools and districts can purchase Roxxem licenses in bulk, giving all teachers (and optionally students) Pro access under a single contract. Contact hi@roxxem.com to set up a group subscription.
How can I use Roxxem with my students?
There are a few ways:
- In class — Find a song and play the music video. Use Roxxem Live to turn it into an interactive classroom game.
- Self-study — Share a song link so students can listen and play games on their own.
- Homework — Assign songs as homework using the Pro Teacher plan.
How do I create a class?
Creating a class lets you organize students, assign lessons, run live games, and track progress from the Teacher dashboard. Go to your Teacher dashboard and select Create a Class, then follow the prompts to name your class and configure settings.
How do students join my class?
Students create a student account on Roxxem, select Join a Class, and enter the class code you provide. You can also share a direct invite link.
Do my students need an email address or name to create an account?
No. Students can join and create an account without sharing any personally identifiable information. They only need a unique username — which can be a pseudonym, random letters, or anything they choose. Student accounts can only be created via a teacher's class invite link or code.
What is Roxxem Live?
Roxxem Live is a real-time multiplayer game that teachers run during class. All students play simultaneously on their own devices. The teacher starts a session, receives a 6-digit game code, and students go to roxxem.com/live to join.
Students can't join a live game — what should I check?
- Confirm the teacher has started the game and the 6-digit code is visible.
- Make sure the student is entering the code exactly — numbers only, no spaces.
- The student should be on app.roxxem.com/live and logged in.
- Check the student's internet connection.
- If the error says "game not found," the game may have ended or the code was entered wrong. Start a new game if needed.
- If they're trying to join a class (not a live game), they need the class code, which is different from the game code.
Still stuck? Email hi@roxxem.com with the game code and the error message.
Can I assign homework or lessons?
Yes. With a Pro Teacher subscription, you can assign songs as homework. You can also use the Lesson Builder to create lessons, vocabulary lists, and question sets that students complete on their own devices.
Can I generate a lesson with AI?
Yes. Roxxem can automatically generate a complete lesson — including questions, vocabulary, and translations — from any song in the library. This saves significant prep time.
Can I add my own songs to Roxxem?
Yes! Use the Roxxem song editor (powered by AI) to add any song from YouTube to Roxxem in just a few minutes, then use it with your students.
The editor is still in beta, but it's available now for you to try.
How do content maturity ratings work?
Every song in Roxxem has a maturity rating assigned by Roxxem's editorial team:
- G — Suitable for all ages.
- PG — Mild content; parental guidance suggested for young children.
- PG-13 — Moderate content; not recommended for learners under 13.
- R — Mature content; intended for adult learners only.
Individual lyric lines may also carry their own rating. Playlists inherit the highest rating of the songs they contain.
Can I control what content my students see?
Yes. When you create or edit a class, you can adjust the Maturity Rating filter to show only songs at or below a certain rating. Go to your class, click the 3 dots at the top right of the banner, select Edit Class, and adjust the maturity settings at the bottom of the popup.
How do I track student progress?
Roxxem tracks each student's proficiency across three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. The level updates automatically as students complete activities. You can view progress from your Teacher dashboard.
Does Roxxem protect student information?
Yes. Roxxem has a strict privacy policy and fully complies with:
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
- New York State's Education Law 2-D
