About Roxxem
What is Roxxem?
Roxxem is a language-learning platform built on authentic culture. It turns the pop culture your students already love — music, TV, viral videos, podcasts, and news — into interactive, curriculum-aligned language lessons and games. Teachers can build a complete, playable lesson for their class level in minutes; students learn through games built on real media instead of textbook material.
What makes Roxxem different from other language learning apps?
Roxxem is the streaming era of learning: content-forward like a streaming app, interactive and gamified like the best learning apps, and never dry school software. Instead of generic exercises, lessons are built from real, culturally rich content in the target language — what we call "culture is the curriculum." And with the Roxxem Lesson Builder, an entire interactive lesson is just one click away.
What kind of content is on Roxxem?
Roxxem's content library spans five categories of authentic media, each with synchronized transcripts, translations, and per-word detail:
- Music — our largest category
- TV — clips, shows, and dialogue
- Viral videos — trending clips students recognize
- Podcasts
- News
Every piece of content works with Roxxem's activities and games.
What languages are available on Roxxem?
Roxxem currently supports:
- Spanish
- French
- German
- Chinese
- English (for ESL learners)
Will Roxxem add new languages in the future?
Yes — more languages are on the way. Stay tuned for updates.
Who is Roxxem for?
- Language teachers (K–12 through college) — the AI Lesson Builder, classes, assignments, live classroom games, reports, and printable slides and worksheets.
- Students (roughly ages 11–22) — the full content library with transcripts and translations, games, streaks, XP, achievements, and contests.
- Solo learners — self-directed study with the same library and games on a Personal account.
- Curriculum directors and district admins — curriculum-aligned content, school and district licensing, and analytics.
Roxxy AI & the Lesson Builder
Who is Roxxy?
Roxxy the Fox 🦊 is Roxxem's mascot and your built-in AI assistant. Roxxy helps you create lessons, find content, set up classes, assign work, and check student progress — all from a simple chat.
Can I generate a lesson with AI?
Yes — this is the heart of Roxxem 2.0. Type a topic (for example, "ordering food at a restaurant for my Spanish 1 class") or upload your own material as a PDF, DOCX, or image, and Roxxy drafts a complete, interactive, playable, curriculum-aligned lesson in about 60–90 seconds. Roxxem already knows your class level and students, so the lesson is personalized to your classroom.
What's included in a generated lesson?
A generated lesson can include slides, videos, vocabulary, comprehension questions, printable handouts, interactive live classroom games, key objectives, and assessments with performance reports — everything you need to teach the class, not just a plan you still have to build yourself. Make it as short or as long as you like; it can fill a whole class period.
Accounts
What account types are available?
- Personal — for individual learners studying on their own.
- Teacher — for educators who manage classes, assign lessons, and run live games.
- Student — created when a student joins a teacher's class via an invite link or class code.
Can I change my account type later?
Yes, with some restrictions. Personal and Teacher accounts can switch between each other in account settings. A Personal account can become a Student account by joining a class with a code. Teacher accounts cannot switch to Student accounts.
Do my students need an email address or name to create an account?
No. Students can join and create an account without sharing any personally identifiable information. They only need a unique username — a pseudonym, random letters, or anything they choose. Student accounts can only be created through a teacher's class invite link or code.
Plans & pricing
What does the free plan include?
The Basic plan is free and includes the content library with transcripts and translations, live classroom games, and class creation. It's a great way to explore Roxxem before upgrading.
What does Pro Teacher include?
Pro Teacher adds everything teachers need to run Roxxem as their curriculum: the AI Lesson Builder, video lessons, tests and assessments, reports and analytics, assignments, printable slides and worksheets, and unlimited student accounts. It's about $9.99/month billed annually (around $19.99 month-to-month).
If I get a Pro Teacher subscription, do my students have to pay?
No. One Pro Teacher subscription gives you unlimited student accounts at no extra cost. Your students never pay.
Is there pricing for schools or districts?
Yes, and it's self-serve. Get a quote instantly at app.roxxem.com/quote — enter your school name, number of teachers and contact details, and the quote arrives by email straight away with volume pricing applied (10% off for 2–8 teachers, 20% off for 9 or more). Pay by purchase order or credit card, then add your teachers yourself from your Group License dashboard. Every teacher on the license gets Pro, and their students get Pro free through their classes. See How to set up school and district payments for the full walkthrough.
Can I change plans or cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel anytime from Account Settings > Plan > Manage Subscription. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period, then revert to the free Basic plan. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel through that store directly.
Will I lose my progress if I cancel?
No. Your study history, word data, and account settings are preserved. You simply lose access to Pro-only features.
Can I get a refund?
Roxxem's refund policy depends on how you subscribed. Contact hi@roxxem.com for refund requests.
Does Roxxem have ads?
No. Roxxem has no ads — anywhere, on any plan.
Teaching with Roxxem
How can I use Roxxem with my students?
There are a few ways:
- Build a full lesson — use the AI Lesson Builder to generate a complete, playable lesson for your class in minutes.
- In class — pull up any video and turn it into an interactive game with Roxxem Live.
- Self-study — share a content link so students can learn and play on their own.
- Homework — assign content, lessons, vocab lists, or question sets with a Pro Teacher plan.
How do I create a class?
From your Teacher dashboard, select Create a Class, then follow the prompts to name it and configure settings. A class lets you organize students, assign work, run live games, and track progress.
How do students join my class?
Students create a student account, select Join a Class, and enter the class code you provide. You can also share a direct invite link.
What is Roxxem Live?
Roxxem Live is a real-time multiplayer game you run during class. The whole class watches a video together and plays comprehension challenges on their own devices. The teacher starts a session, gets a 6-digit game code, and students join at roxxem.com/live.
Students can't join a live game — what should I check?
- Confirm the teacher has started the game and the 6-digit code is visible.
- Make sure the student is entering the code exactly — numbers only, no spaces.
- The student should be at app.roxxem.com/live and logged in.
- Check the student's internet connection.
- If the error says "game not found," the game may have ended or the code was mistyped — start a new game if needed.
- To join a class (not a live game), students need the class code, which is different from the game code.
Still stuck? Email hi@roxxem.com with the game code and error message.
Can I create vocabulary lists and question sets?
Yes. You can create vocabulary lists and question sets from Roxxem content, from any web page, by importing your own, or by generating them with AI. Use them across Roxxem activities and games, share them with students, or feed a question set into the Lesson Builder to generate a whole lesson. Questions include automatic translations so students can toggle between their target and native language.
Can I add my own content to Roxxem?
Yes! Use the Roxxem Editor to add any YouTube video — music, clips, stories, and more. Just paste the YouTube URL; after a few minutes of processing, it appears in your library complete with Roxxem's activities and resources. The Editor is out of beta and available to everyone.
Games, progress & assessment
What games and activities does Roxxem have?
- Whac-A-Word — fast, reflexive word identification
- Vocab Harvest — vocabulary mastery
- Quiz Ninja — multiple-choice comprehension
- Sentence Snake — sequencing and fill-in-the-blank puzzles
- Roxxem Live — teacher-hosted, real-time multiplayer for the whole class
Each activity works on its own, and they combine into a complete lesson through the Lesson Builder.
How does Roxxem keep students motivated?
Roxxem includes streaks, XP, levels, and achievement badges, plus contests — leaderboard challenges and bracket-style tournaments (like Locura de Marzo and Franco-Manie) with in-game and physical prizes.
How do I track student progress?
Every game and activity generates a performance report with key takeaways and personalized suggestions. The Progress page rolls these up into class- and student-level insights, charts, and recommendations, so you can see exactly what students are doing and where they can improve.
Content safety & privacy
How do content maturity ratings work?
Every piece of content has a maturity rating from Roxxem's editorial team:
- G — suitable for all ages
- PG — mild content; parental guidance suggested for young children
- PG-13 — moderate content; not recommended for learners under 13
- R — mature content; intended for adult learners only
Individual lines may carry their own rating, and playlists inherit the highest rating of the content they contain.
Can I control what content my students see?
Yes. When you create or edit a class, adjust the Maturity Rating filter to show only content at or below a chosen rating. Go to your class, click the 3 dots at the top right of the banner, select Edit Class, and adjust the maturity settings.
Does Roxxem protect student information?
