What are lessons?

An overview of Roxxem Lessons — full interactive lessons you can play live with your class, not just a lesson plan or slide deck.

A Lesson on Roxxem isn't a lesson plan and it isn't a slide deck — it's a full interactive lesson you can actually play, live, with your class.

Where a lesson plan tells you what to teach and slides give you something to click through, a Roxxem Lesson comes ready to run: it can include slides, videos, vocabulary, comprehension questions, printable handouts, and interactive games, all built around a single topic or piece of content. When you play it, students respond and compete in real time instead of just watching.

How Lessons get built

  • Generated with Roxxy — type a topic, or upload your own material, and Roxxy drafts a complete, playable lesson in about 60–90 seconds.
  • Built from a video — any piece of content in the library can become a lesson on its own, complete with transcript, vocabulary, and games attached.
  • Get started — open Roxxy Chat in the left-hand menu and pick Build lessons, or find a ready-made lesson in Discover under Lessons.

How Lessons get used

  • Played live with your whole class in one session
  • Assigned as homework for students to complete on their own
  • Used for self-study, at a student's own pace

Slide types

Roxxy picks the slides when it builds a lesson. To change a slide's type yourself, open the lesson, click Edit, pick the slide and choose another Activity Type.

Slide
What it does
When to use it
Intro
Opens the lesson: its title and what today is about.
Every lesson starts with one.
Objectives
What the class will be able to do by the end.
Every lesson has one, right after the intro.
Warm-Up
A quick question or task that gets the class thinking about the topic.
Every lesson has one before anything new. Roxxy usually makes it a poll, an agree or disagree, or an open response, so students answer it on their devices.
Video
Plays a part of the video for the class.
Right before a game that plays the same part.
Vocabulary
The lesson's words as flashcards, with translations.
Every lesson has one, before the games.
Grammar
Explains the lesson's grammar point with examples from the content.
Lessons with a grammar point.
Pronunciation
A listen-and-repeat drill on sounds, stress or rhythm.
Words or sounds in the content that are hard to say.
Culture
A short note on a place, a custom or a way of speaking the content mentions.
Content that raises something about the culture behind it.
Role-Play
A short model conversation, then pairs act out the situation with role cards.
Speaking practice: ordering, asking, answering.
Think-Pair-Share
Students think about a question alone, talk it over with a partner, then share with the class.
Questions about meaning or opinion that need thinking time.
Discussion
Two to four questions for the class or small groups to talk about.
A topic the class has something to say about.
Poll
Every student taps an answer on their device, and the results appear live.
Checking what the class understood, a guess before the video, or a quick vote. Quick at any level.
Agree or Disagree
Every student places themselves on a scale for one statement, on their device. The spread starts a discussion.
An opinion the class could disagree about. Quick at any level.
Open Response
Every student types a short answer on their device, and you choose which ones to show.
Students writing a word, a phrase or a sentence of their own. Best in longer lessons and from intermediate levels.
People
Who someone in the lesson is, with facts from Wikipedia and a photo.
A well-known person who is central to the content.
Review
A recap of what the lesson has covered so far.
Longer lessons, before their last part.
General
Any other teaching slide: a title and bullet points.
Teaching something no other slide type fits.

On a Poll, the results appear as students answer. On an Agree or Disagree, the results stay hidden until you click Show results. On an Open Response, you tap an answer to show it to the class.
