Start with a link
- Click Add content in the sidebar (or go to
/editor/videos/create).
- Paste the YouTube URL. If you got here from search after pasting a link, the field is already filled in.
- Pick the language the video is in, and its type โ song, TV clip, podcast or vlog, news, and so on. The type matters: music is treated more carefully than speech, because machine transcripts of singing are unreliable.
- Click Add.
Roxxem fetches the video and takes you to its setup page, which is where you will spend the rest of the process.
The four steps
The setup page is one page with four steps. It always opens on the step the video is actually at, and it tells you what that step is waiting for.
Step 1 โ Add video. Done when Roxxem has the video: an id, a title, and a real duration. If fetching failed, this step says so and offers a retry. This is also where you can delete a draft that should not exist.
Step 2 โ Transcript. The step that decides everything after it. Roxxem collects transcript candidates โ YouTube's own captions, machine transcriptions, sometimes published lyrics โ and you choose one, or paste your own. See How to choose or add a transcript.
Step 3 โ Generate. With the transcript settled, Roxxem builds everything that depends on it: word and phrase segments, translations, difficulty, tags and metadata. This step runs on its own; you do not have to sit and watch it.
Step 4 โ Publish. The video goes to learners. Some videos publish automatically once they are whole; others are held back on purpose. What makes a video publishable explains both.
You can leave and come back
Nothing is lost if you close the tab. The video keeps its place, and you will find it again under Your content on your home page, or in the editor's video list. You will also get an email if a video of yours stops and needs you โ the email names the step and links straight to it.
When a step is stuck
A stuck step shows a red box that says which step you are on, why it stopped, and gives you the button that unsticks it. It is worth reading rather than clicking past: "no transcript selected" and "the transcript failed the quality check" need completely different things from you.
You can also just ask Roxxy โ in the editor she can see the video you are looking at and the step it is on.
Choosing videos worth adding
Before you add anything, it is worth knowing what makes a good one: length, audio quality, whether the language is clean enough to learn from. That is written down in the content guidelines.
