Overview
A sandbox assignment gives students freedom to explore Roxxem songs and games independently, within any constraints the teacher has set. There is no single correct path — students accumulate time, words learned, or points until they meet the goal.
For teachers: Creating a sandbox assignment
1. Open your class and select Create Assignment.

2. Choose Open-Ended Assignment.

3. Fill out the assignment form, including:
- A time requirement (for example, 30 minutes of play)
- A daily or weekly interval
- Optionally, a specific set of songs to restrict play to
- Optionally, a specific game type to restrict play to

4. Adjust how many minutes per day each student can spend on Roxxem.
5. Select Save — the assignment will be sent to all students in the class.
For students: Completing a sandbox assignment
- Open the Roxxem app and go to Assignments.
- Select the sandbox assignment.
- Browse the song library (or the restricted set of songs, if the teacher limited the selection).
- Play any game or lesson to start earning progress toward the assignment goal.
- Check the assignment progress bar to see how close you are to completing it.
- The assignment is marked complete when you meet the requirement — for example, 30 minutes of active play or 50 words learned.
FAQ
Can I assign to only some students?
No. Assignments are sent to all students in the selected class. There is no option to target individual students within a class.
Can students pick any song?
Yes, unless the teacher has restricted the song list in the assignment settings.
Does the timer count while paused?
Only active play time counts. Pausing the video or sitting idle does not add to the time requirement.
