Vocab Harvest game

How the Vocab Harvest game works and what vocabulary skills it builds.

Overview

Vocab Harvest is a word-matching game in which you collect vocabulary by connecting words to their definitions or translations. It builds deeper recall than simple recognition.

How to play

  1. Select a song, then choose Vocab Harvest from the game options.

  1. Choose your mode:
  • Solo (for individual play)
  • Live Game (for classroom/teacher-led sessions)

  1. Select your mode to play:
  • Custom Words (Roxxem Pro feature only): Choose exactly which vocab words appear in the game. Filter by difficulty, grammar tags, or pick manually..
  • Random Words: All vocab words from the video are included randomly.

  1. Select your difficulty, adjust your settings and your power up!
  1. You are shown a definition, translation, or audio clip.
  1. Identify the matching word from the choices displayed.
  1. Correct answers add the word to your harvest. Incorrect answers bring the word back around for another try.
  1. Build correct answer streaks for bonus points.
  1. The round ends when all words have been harvested.
 

What it teaches

  • Linking definitions to target-language words
  • Vocabulary retention through active recall
  • Handling longer or more complex words at higher difficulties
 

Difficulty

Higher difficulty levels increase the number of answer choices and use more similar-sounding or similar-meaning distractors. See Adjust Game Difficulty to change the level.

 

Powers

Vocab Harvest has unique powers like Water, Sun, Longest Season, Timestop, Fool's Touch, and Double Down, plus shared powers like Energize, Inner Fire, and Resurrection. In Live games, additional player and teacher powers are available.

FAQ

What happens if I get an answer wrong?

The word reappears later in the same session. Roxxem also schedules it for more frequent review in your spaced repetition queue.
